Community Ministry
Core Values
Each
person
is
God’s creation and is therefore to be treated with
the dignity and respect afforded some one made in God’s
image.
The
church
is the
only hope for a world that is badly broken and is God’s
instrument to redeem it for Himself.
The
Kingdom
is both now and not yet. Christ’s people are to live with
the hope of the promise of the coming new heaven and new
earth, while participating fully in the present battle of
redemption.
Acts
of mercy
are
the outworking of God’s abundant love in the lives of
believers. They are the result of hearts responding
worshipfully, actively participating in advancing God’s
kingdom and not by compulsion to earn His favor.
We are
to encourage and nurture those in our congregation
who serve and desire to serve the needy by inviting them
into action, training and equipping them to help and sharing
with them the joy of being a part of the “larger story.”
We are
to fully engage where God has called us. Our lives
are to be spent winning the world for Christ. Whether we
have been given much or little does not matter, the Kingdom
will cost us EVERYTHING.
Community Ministry
Vision Statement
“Bring
reconciliation, freedom and hope to those in need in Citrus
County.”
As we
live out of the abundance of the riches we have in Christ,
we will respond to and be empowered by the Holy Spirit as He
leads us to obey God’s call to have regard for, protect and
provide for the poor as we reflect the image of our
Creator. We must utterly depend on God for the power to
love and obey, realizing that only the gospel will transform
us from selfish people bent on our own pleasures and
busyness into self-giving people who rely prayerfully and
intentionally upon the strength of Christ to love others
sacrificially, genuinely, and cheerfully.
As we
live purposefully in our community we will bring
reconciliation to families, classes and races. We will
bring spiritual freedom to those enslaved to sin, financial
freedom to those burdened by debt, and emotional freedom to
those weighed down by the worries of this life. We will
courageously engage in the messy work of loving our
neighbors well, realizing that the local church is the hope
of the world.
Community Ministry
Philosophy of Ministry
The message of the gospel is that of
our Heavenly Father reconciling to Himself a broken world.
The church (individually and corporately) has been
instituted by God to be the agent of that reconciliation.
We are called to bring healing to every aspect of our
community that has been affected by sin: psychological,
social, economic and physical.
To
that end we are to minister in word and deed to the needy in
our community, believing that through the sharing of the
message of grace through Jesus Christ, some might be
reconciled to God. To the extent that some may reject
Christ, we are nonetheless to participate in claiming every
inch of our community for God’s Kingdom. Deeds of mercy
show that the promise of the kingdom is already being
fulfilled in the pouring out of Christ’s love through the
Holy Spirit and they point to the promise of the coming new
heaven and new earth. As kingdom agents, we are to actively
serve and strive to bring reconciliation, righteousness and
justice to all in our community in response to God’s love
for us.
