What is Podcasting?
Podcasting is simply a method of delivering and/or receiving
fresh audio content from web sites that offer such content.
Users install a Podcast client program on their local
computer and then subscribe to Podcast 'feeds' found at web
sites offering the content. The Podcast client checks the
feeds on a regular basis for new content, and when new
content is made available it is downloaded to the user's
computer automatically. For example, a user who subscribes
to the Seven Rivers podcast will automatically receive the
content delivered to their Podcast client anytime we post
new content.
To subscribe to Seven
Rivers' weekly podcast you will need to do the following:
-
Download podcast software,
such as Apple Computer's iTunes 4.9 or higher. iTunes
works on PC's and Macintosh. Go to
www.apple.com and click on the iTunes button.
Follow the instructions for the free download and
installation on your computer. It only takes a few
minutes.
-
Start iTunes and choose
the "podcasts" option from the menu bar on the left. A
new window will appear. Click on the "Podcast
Directory" link at the bottom of the iTunes window.
This will take you to the Apple Music Store podcasts
page, where an extensive directory of podcasts resides.
In the search window on the left, enter "Seven Rivers
Presbyterian Church" and hit return. Seven
Rivers Presbyterian Church should appear as a podcast.
-
Click on the Seven Rivers podcast to select it, then choose "subscribe."
-
The latest sermons will
download automatically to your computer as mp3 files.
You can listen to these at any time by selecting them
and pushing the play button, or double-clicking the
podcast.
-
If you have an iPod music
player it will automatically download any podcasts and
stay in sync. That way you can listen to the sermons
anytime, anywhere. Best of all, if you have to stop,
the next time you hit "play" it resumes where you left
off.
-
Depending on what
"options" you have set, iTunes will delete old episodes
automatically. Or, you can leave them on.
-
PLEASE NOTE: You do
NOT
need an iPod to enjoy podcasting - you can simply listen
to it on your computer.
-
Don't forget one important
thing ... please tell a friend about our new podcast and
spread the word.
