In 1993, after working for the Ugandan Government Civil Service as a Probation/Welfare Officer for 10 years, Sam Kasule and his wife Zoe felt the call from God to return to Ft. Portal and become the Pastor of New Life Presbyterian Church in Busoro sub-district, Ft. Portal town. Sam was told by the government officials that all of his retirement benefits which would have been vested after 10 years would be forfeited with this decision to leave government work and seek God’s will in their lives. In his own words, “Nothing would stand in my way and stop me from answering God’s call. I was saying, Here I am, send me.”

Pastor Sam had a burden to help poor and hopeless orphans be educated and loved with Christ’s love and in 1996 the Good Samaritan Sponsorship Project began.

It was also at this same time that the Hope Primary Christian School was established. It had its beginning literally under the branches of a mango tree next to the church building, expanding to a log cabin structure and eventually becoming a full primary school from first to seventh grade in a permanent brick and mortar structure with 13 teachers. The school has earned an excellent reputation with the Department of Education and has become a model school for the district. In 2008 Hope Primary School will have over 500 students.

So as well as being a full-time pastor, father, husband, coordinator of children’s program, Pastor Sam’s home remains an open clinic for the sick and needy both spiritually and physically seven days a week. He is also involved with the local Uganda Presbyterian Church Presbytery and General Assembly, as well as finding time for counseling at the church and continuing his advanced Biblical studies periodically in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

May 2010

Dear Beloved,

On the 29th of April, 2010 we celebrated our 27th anniversary. We do thank God for His love, protection and blessings and all that He has enabled us do, achieve and go through, as well the ministry to which he has called us to. We went for a night in an upcountry resort. It was so humbling and made our hearts leap with joy as we reflected back to the first day and through all those years. We read Psalm 127 which Rev. Campbell (Kembo) who united us in marriage preached from and also read Psalm 128. It was good to be reminded that if God doesn't build the house, even marriage, those who build it labor in vain!!

We were also reminded of the blessing of children and wow grandchildren and we laughed with great joy in gratitude to our loving and merciful God. My heart also ran to Job 23:8-10. How on earth have we been able to bring up 18 children, educate them, clothe them ! We remember the struggle we had to go through when I had to resign the Government Job and many times we were like Job!! I go forward but He is not there. Backwards, but I don’t find Him there, yet He has always been near us and has enabled us to go through many tests. And I know that one day we shall come out as gold and indeed we have started testing of it!! Praise God on the 18 original children we started with, we have taken on 4 more from my late brother who died 3 years ago. Only 4 are still in school. one girl, Loy, will graduate next year from university, Lillian graduates 2 years from now, little Zoe will graduate next year from medical school, while Nathaniel joins university this year in August, the last born James will be joining university next year!!!!

Thank God with us and pray that God will also enable us to see the 4 through their university as it is so expensive and enable us to provide for the other 4 of my late brother. The eldest is in S. 4 and the youngest in P. 3! Pray with us that our marriage will continue being an example to our own children , the people in the church and community. We want glorify God even through our marriage and the ministry to which he has called us. It was so amazing to find out that in our 27 years of marriage we have never fought! Something very rare in Uganda marriages!! We thank God for we know that as David says in Psalm 115:1, “Not to us oh Lord not to us, but to Your name give glory." My dad and mom will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on September 20th, 2010. We pray and look to God for even more in our lives.

Give our love to all.

In His gracious arms,

Sam & Zoe
