In 1993, after working for the Ugandan Government Civil Service as a Probation/Welfare Officer for 10 years, Sam Kasule and his wife Zoe felt the call from God to return to Ft. Portal and become the Pastor of New Life Presbyterian Church in Busoro sub-district, Ft. Portal town. Sam was told by the government officials that all of his retirement benefits which would have been vested after 10 years would be forfeited with this decision to leave government work and seek God’s will in their lives. In his own words, “Nothing would stand in my way and stop me from answering God’s call. I was saying, Here I am, send me.”

Pastor Sam had a burden to help poor and hopeless orphans be educated and loved with Christ’s love and in 1996 the Good Samaritan Sponsorship Project began.

It was also at this same time that the Hope Primary Christian School was established. It had its beginning literally under the branches of a mango tree next to the church building, expanding to a log cabin structure and eventually becoming a full primary school from first to seventh grade in a permanent brick and mortar structure with 13 teachers. The school has earned an excellent reputation with the Department of Education and has become a model school for the district. In 2008 Hope Primary School will have over 500 students.

So as well as being a full-time pastor, father, husband, coordinator of children’s program, Pastor Sam’s home remains an open clinic for the sick and needy both spiritually and physically seven days a week. He is also involved with the local Uganda Presbyterian Church Presbytery and General Assembly, as well as finding time for counseling at the church and continuing his advanced Biblical studies periodically in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

October 2008

Dear Beloved Ones,

Love and greetings in Jesus' precious Name. Since my last e-mail God has continued healing me and restoring my strength and reducing on my weight. While a I was 90 kgs. before I became sick, I was 80 kgs. this morning and desire to go down to 70 or 75 kgs. The last [3rd] blood test showed that sodium, potassium, chloride, urea, cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol as well as triglycerides are all in normal range! Glory be to God. Am also learning to leave off milk, and all red meat; as directed by the consultants. Thank you so much for your prayers. Am still in Kampala and hopes to leave for Fort Portal this week.

God has continued to bless our family, on the October, 17, 2008 our daughter Dorothy will graduate from Mukono Christian University with a degree in Mass Communication, while our son Joseph will also graduate on the same day with an international course in ACCA, and he is already working as a senior auditor in National Water Board. Our daughter Grace Jacqueline will introduce her husband to be on the December 12, 2008, and the wedding will be next year in January.

Our son Bob Kasujja has been admitted in Makerere University to do a degree course in urban planning. And our daughter Zoe has been admitted in Mbale Clinical Officers School. We are so thankful to God.

Our daughter Night Grace was married on September 6, 2008, to elder Richard in Busoro Church, God is so faithful and we thank Him. The church and ministry despite my sickness for the past two weeks has continued doing well.

This year we have 29 children sitting as candidates from the Good Samaritan project, 2 in s.6, 10 in s.4 and 17 in p.7. The project also has three join the University this year and one joining a tertiary institution. We can thankfully say together with the psalmist of Psalm 126 that God has done great things and we are so glad.

Give our love to all our brothers and sisters and thank you again for your prayers.

In His Gracious Arms,

Sam + Zoe

   Rwengoma New Life Presbyterian Church

It is very exciting to see the fruits of Seven Rivers’ sacrificial giving. In 2003 Seven Rivers’ pledged $120,000 from our Generation Next campaign for the construction of three building projects around the world.

Project #1 was Rwengoma New Life Presbyterian Church in Ft. Portal, Uganda. This was our second project in Ft. Portal. In 1995 we helped build Bosoro New Life Presbyterian Church.

With the completion of this project, we look forward to the completion of our second project, Ang Bahay Parola #4 (ABP4) in the coming year. ABP means Lighthouse in Tagalog, the native language of the Philippines where this project is located. Lighthouse homes are church-based street children homes in and around Manila.
