-
Arrive 30 minutes before the service starts and check in
with the lead usher on duty.
-
Welcome everyone with a smile and a hello.
-
Be pleasant and cheerful.
-
Offer to seat or find seats for individuals. Sometimes a
couple of ushers will need to work together to seat
large groups or when the seats are limited.
-
Escort guests needing nursery location.
-
Encourage seating toward the front and middle.
-
One of most important “ushering” times is the first 10
minutes AFTER the service has begun. Please help people
find seats during that time.
-
The collection plates should be given to one of the
deacons at the back of the sanctuary.
-
Count the section you are assigned and report the number
to the lead usher.
-
Distribute the attendance pads.
-
Assist the lead usher in collecting the attendance pads
after the service and removing the sheets from each pad.
-
Help the lead usher pickup trash in the sanctuary as you
collect attendance books.
-
Primary goal of the leader is to coordinate all the
ushers used in the worship service; especially for the
collection of tithes, issuance of the attendance pads,
and seating the congregation.
-
It is the lead usher’s duty to call all ushers on their
team prior to the beginning of their month to remind
them they are on next month.
-
Make sure all ushers wear the “WELCOME” tag and their
individual Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church name tags.
-
Lead usher should arrive at church approximately 45
minutes before the service starts.
-
Smile.
-
Be
pleasant.
-
Make sure each usher knows their assignments in their
assigned section. Sections are numbered west to east
from one to six.
-
Upon arrival the lead usher should obtain the collection
plates, a cup of water to be placed at the podium, and
obtain an usher attendance/assignment report. Lead usher
should fill out the report as to the deacon on duty and
the names of all those serving as ushers.
-
After the service the report should be taken to the
Information Desk and placed in the wire basket along
with the attendance sheets.
-
Help people feel comfortable and welcomed. You are the
primary example for the other ushers.
-
Help people find seats as the sanctuary fills up with
people as well as after the service begins for
latecomers.
-
Make sure the attendance count is taken before children
are dismissed for children's church.
-
Lead usher should remain at the rear of the sanctuary
throughout the worship service in case of emergency or
other problems. Lead usher is to contact the deacon on
duty if necessary.
-
After the service is over, the lead usher should pick up
any trash left in the sanctuary.
-
It
is the individual usher’s responsibility and the lead
usher’s responsibility to find a substitute if he or she
is unable to attend a service for which they have usher
duty.
-
Lead usher needs to be familiar with the location of
most fire extinguishers, cleaning supplies, and first
aid kits.
