Recruit people to lead the church’s response locally to storm relief.
Assign one leader per zone (Ozello, Downtown Crystal River, Ft. Island Trail, Halls River Rd.)
Create a document with all the cell phone numbers of the Storm Team for the Command Center.
Storm Prep
Send text/email to the church group that lives in flood-prone areas, asking if they need any help getting ready as storm approaches.
Tentatively choose what days storm relief will do initial mobilization.
Speak to Jackie to change office phones to be turned on during the days designated for storm relief.
Check to see that we have five Storm Kits on hand with the following items: 2 squeegee brooms, 1 shop vac (10 gallon, 6hp), generator (200 watts), Storm Response signs for vehicles, box cutters
ONCE STORM HITS
Firm up workdays and communicate with church. (Highlight that it's both physical labor and advocacy: coming along to encourage people, pray, help them organize papers, figure out where to get resources, etc.)
Send out Storm Relief Request to the church group in affected area, have it available for SRC people who are requesting help for friends and neighbors.
Compile database of needs, with two tiers of priority: high and medium, based on Storm Relief Request.
Decide how many teams will be sent out and assign leaders.
Contact the people needing help, if possible, to ensure they will be available if relief team shows up.
FIRST DAY OF RELIEF
Gather Storm Supply Kits in the SOB office.
Gather Storm Team 30 minutes before church volunteers.
Assign 2-4 of the Storm Team to help with command central (taking phone calls, coordinating where to send teams when the finish, gathering info for the next day, etc.)
Assign 2 people to be runners, taking supplies to or between teams as needed.
Determine how many volunteers needed per team and give team leader info on homes to address. THIS FORM NEEDS TO HAVE CHURCH PHONE NUMBER AND CELL NUMBERS FOR COMMAND CENTER LEADERS.
Give instruction to the church volunteers, divide them into teams with pre-selected team leaders.
INSTRUCTION FOR RELIEF TEAMS
Assign someone to call and see if you can contact homeowner to let them know you are on the way.
When you arrive, explain where you are from (Seven Rivers Church), purpose (to provide help and relief in the name of Jesus).
Confirm with person what is needed and explain what team will be able to do (and not do, depending on what is requested).
Ask if pictures have been taken and if anything extra is required per insurance.
Have your advocates spend time with the person, giving them a guide for resources, asking if they need help with accessing supplies, etc. and help direct, listen, pray with them.
Provide communication back to church to express any needs and let them know when you finish and see if there is further instruction.
Send a pair or people to the neighbors to see if they will be needing help and gather info using the Storm Relief Request, if possible. If not, write down as much as possible and communicate back to church.
