A Free In-Person Workshop from the PCA Foundation
We want to help church members give more by giving smarter.

We are excited to host a Smart Giving Workshop, provided by the PCA Foundation. At this workshop, an experienced gift strategist will provide an introduction to estate planning concepts and tools and show participants how to maximize how much they can give for Kingdom impact by employing tax efficient giving strategies. We would encourage you to attend this workshop especially if you:

  • Own non-cash assets such as a business, real estate or cryptocurrency.
  • Are experiencing elevated taxable income due to peak earning years, bonuses, inheritance, or a liquidation event.
  • Anticipate making a large charitable bequest from your estate.
  • Want to create lifetime income while making long-term gifts.

Led by Tim Townsend, PCA Foundation President, this workshop will be of special interest for Christians who:

  • Own a business or have incentive stock options
  • Own investment real estate or a vacation home
  • Own highly appreciated stock or a large IRA
  • Are experiencing a period of extraordinarily high taxable income
  • Anticipate a final estate that significantly exceeds what they want to leave to children
  • and other heirs
  • Have wealth to give, but need the earnings on such wealth for life or some period of
    years.

The Workshop consists of two sessions, plus an inter-session in which a biblical view of wealth and giving is presented and compared with popular evangelical perspectives. Participants can attend one or the other session, or both, depending on their circumstances and base knowledge.

Session 1: Basic Estate and Gift Planning

Tim will introduce helpful tools and common pitfalls in planning and distributing estates, and basic giving tools and techniques that maximize impact. Topics to be covered include:

  • Joint ownership titles, wills, and living trusts
  • The true effect of the charitable deduction
  • Three rules for basic Smart Giving
  • Donor Advised Funds (basic)
  • Public stocks, funds, and bonds
  • IRA charitable rollover
  • Bequests and surviving beneficiaries

Session 2: Giving Non-Cash Assets and Advanced Gift Planning

Tim will introduce and illustrate for business and property owners and high-taxable-income earners advanced strategies for converting the most tax into Kingdom giving. Topics to be covered include:

  • Four rules for stewarding your giving
  • Donor Advised Funds (advanced)
  • Non-cash gifts, including
  • Appreciated real estate
  • Limited partnership and LLC interests, and S Corporation stock
  • Bequests (what to give to whom)
  • Accelerated giving
  • Charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts
  • Reserved life estates

Following the workshop, participants will have the option of signing up for an individual consultation.
